Within You Without You

Within You Without You
By George Harrison

We were talking-- about the space
between us all
And the people-- who hide themselves
behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth-- then it's far
Too late-when they pass away.
We were talking-- about the love we all
could share-- when we find it
To try our best to hold it there-- with
our love.
With our love-- we could save the world
-- if they only knew.
Try to realize it's all within yourself
no-one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small,
and life flows on within you and without
you.
We were talking-- about the love that's
gone so cold and the people,
Who gain the world and lose their soul-
they don't know-- they can't see-- are
you one of them?
When you've seen beyond yourself—
then you may find peace of mind is
waiting there—
And the time will come when you see
we're all one and life flows on within
you and without you.

I think I have to warn you, I may be all over the place as I am writing my thoughts as they
are forming. It's one of those nights that I just need to let whatever comes, flow freely. Here we go…….

Sometimes we live outside ourselves, not really feeling or engaging in the world around us. We become de-sensitized from all that goes on. There's always sooo much going on . It seems we turn into robots, always trying to accomplish the tasks at hand. There's never time for anything else. We create a space between us and the world, separating our emotions from our reality. We hide, "behind a wall of illusion". Then this becomes our life, our illusion of it. It's all a farce. The truth is, we can make a difference if we just step out of our comfort zone. We can make the time to be with loved ones, we can hold a hand, give a hug, read a book to someone that isn't able to, we can hold love in our heart and give it away too. We can look at our neighbors from other impoverished countries and try to lend a hand. It doesn't take much to make someone smile. We can watch a sunrise and a sunset and breathe peace into our being. Time is only an illusion., we need not worry about the lack of it or separate ourselves because of it, we just need to let go of it, if only for a while. Then we can fly free, love deeply, smell the scent of the wild flowers as they ooze it out unto the air with each breeze that envelopes them.

And so I sit here writing and thinking" how have I become part of this rat race? Or have I not?" It's complicated, I guess. Some days I feel just like most of you. I wake up in the morning and as I open my eyes my mind is going a mile a minute. There are so many things that need to get done that there aren't enough hours in the day to finish. And then, I stop myself, or at least I try. I don't always succeed. I realize I am making all these limitations for myself that will only accomplish "nothing"! It is when I let go and just take care of what I have in that moment that it all balances itself out. Well now, I am practicing the art of un-multitasking my days. Yes, un-multitasking, so that I may feel alive and present and not bound by "time". I try to do one thing at a time, not 500. Then my whole being becomes one with what I'm doing and I am connected once more to my source.

As I write here I sit amidst computers and external drives backing up my files so that they are not lost forever in the event that something should malfunction. What if it does malfunction, is it really the end of the world? Ask yourself that question, how important is it really? If this was your last hour on Earth, would it really be that important? What would really matter most? I leave you with this question to ponder on as the days go by, and the clocks keep ticking and you continue on your personal race with the world, as" life flows on within you and without you. "
